The Supreme Court judgment in favour of Maharashtra government on the
controversial Babli project on Godavari river might have been ignored
by many politicians amidst the union budget on Thursday, but there was
one person who virtually broke into tears on hearing the judgement.
He was Telugu Desam Party legislator and Telangana TDP forum convenor Errabelli Dayakar Rao. The TDP MLA from Warangal was in tears after he came to know about the Supreme Court judgement against Andhra Pradesh on Babli.
“For the last seven years, we have waged several battles to stop the project. We had faced lathi blows and had gone to jail for several days. We took up padayatras to Babli to question Maharashtra government. It is unfortunate that the Congress government had failed to protect the interests of the state,” Errabelli said.
He pointed out that the Babli project would make the north Telangana region a desert, as there was no other source than Godavari river. “What is the point in continuing as the people’s representatives, if we can’t protect the rights of the people?” he asked and called upon the people to bury the Congress party in the next elections.
