YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy is understood to
have decided to field his uncle Y S Vivekananda Reddy in the forthcoming
MLC elections under the MLAs’ quota scheduled to be held on March 21.
According to party sources, Jagan has taken the decision only to avoid confrontation among the party leaders vying for the MLC seat. There would be no rumblings in the party if Jagan’s uncle himself contests the elections.
Initially, there was a talk that former minister Konda Surekha or her husband Konda Murali might be given the chance, but sources said Jagan was not very keen on the Konda couple because of their aggressive approach. There was also a talk that Jagan might prefer a Coastal Andhra leader.
However, Viveka emerged as a front runner in the MLC polls. Sources said Jagan has preferred Viveka because the later would remain loyal forever to the party and his family. Secondly, he wants YSR family to be represented even in the legislative council. It remains to be seen whether Viveka would be able to get the chance or not.
