In what can be called as something unexpected, the recent release
‘Midhunam’ directed by Tanikella Bharani starring S P Balasubrahmanyam
and Lakshmi worked at the box office and became a success. Many cine
folks are now thinking since it worked let us also look at such movies
with similar genre.
The target audience for ‘Midhunam’ was 60 plus and it is proved that even such audience is coming. So, the cine folks are stating “Many stories of that type are there we didn’t attempt it till now.” But they should remember one thing and not follow the Telugu saying ‘Puli Ni Chusi Nakka Vaathapettukovadam’.
‘Midhunam’ ran mainly because of Bharani’s brand value and even the 50 days function also happened grandly. But then, after the film’s release the cine folks promoted it extensively and most importantly the media folks promoted the movie without taking a single penny out of interest and respect for Bharani.
Usually, film publicity costs nearly Rs 50 lakhs but that expense wasn’t there and that’s why the film worked commercially. ‘O Namaalu’ came what happened? ‘Devasthanam’ came what happened? Here, Bharani is a class man with mass appeal and well known to many genres of people and this led to the good result for ‘Midhunam’. So, it is better to follow formula flicks. And only those who have interest for making good films without any commercial interests are welcome to attempt this genre.
