Will Lokesh turn another Rahul?
There appears to be a lot of similarities between newly anointed All
India Congress Committee vice president Rahul Gandhi and Telugu Desam
Party’s latest youth icon Nara Lokesh Naidu. All these days, Rahul Gandhi had been confined only to a particular activity in the Congress party and had never been part of the major decision making process of the party. However, after he was appointed as the party vice-president, Rahul has been actively involved in the party activities, holding meetings with seniors including PCC presidents of various states and is even taking active part in the selection of candidates for the next general elections. In the coming days, Rahul will be the most crucial factor in the AICC, say party sources.
Same is the case with Lokesh Naidu. Hitherto, he was only playing behind the screen role in the TDP, giving suggestions to his father N Chandrababu Naidu and focussing on designing the campaign strategies of the party. But now, Lokesh has gradually been participating in the party activities more seriously. On Monday, he took part in the motor cycle rally of the TDP activists at Kadiri in Anantapur district and had a lengthy meeting with the local leaders.
Moreover, Lokesh is said to have commissioned a survey on the victory prospects of the TDP in various constituencies so that it would help the party identity right candidates. No wonder, he would play a major role in selection of candidates in the coming days.
In spite of all that, it is still doubtful whether Rahul would be able to bring the Congress back to power at the Centre in 2014, while Lokesh would also have to face the same situation in the state.
