Mahat: 'I Dated Taapsee For 2 Years'

Mahat Raghavendra, the hero debuting with Madhura Sreedhar’s ‘Back Bench Student’ on Tollywood screen has shared his views and opinions to greatandhra.com exclusively. Here it is:

What is your family and education background? And what made you step into film acting?

-My mom is a scientist who worked in NASA for a couple of years and later in Lester, London. Dad is a chemical engineer. He has been in Dubai for last couple of years. I discontinued my graduation in Visual Communication from Hindustan College in Chennai. I dont want to say that I became an actor just with true passion or knowing my abilities. It is true that possess those but I firmly say Simbu is the main reason for my entry into films. He has been my friend from childhood and I loved the way he loves films and film making. When you are close to a person you tend to love their activities and I love the way Simbu has passion towards films in the way he dances or acts.  That is the main reason which pulled me towards films.

Are you a Telugu or Tamil?

-I am both. I was born and brought up in Chennai. And my mother tongue is Telugu.

Did you go to any acting or dance school?
-I did dance course for 6 months. I didn't learn acting. Because, director Venkat Prabhu, who introduced me in Mankatha advised me not to go to any acting schools as being myself is the best thing.

Why Tamil star Simbu sang a Telugu song in BBS? Is he singing in Tamil version of the film as well?

-Yes he will be singing in Tamil too. It was not just because he was my best friend. The track he sang was very well known in both Tamil and Telugu which was composed by Illayaraja sir. As I was very happy and lucky to dance for the song Simbu was as happy as me to sing the song.

You are more known is 'boy friend of a popular heroine' much before you became an actor. Can you tell me about that tag?

-Why to filter? You can ask me directly with her name. Yes, I was known as boy friend of Taapsee only in Telugu film industry. And I was more known as myself in Tamil. Because, my launch in Tamil was with one of the Top guns in the industry- THALA AJITH. And I was launched by the best banner-CLOUD NINE MOVIES. As you say, now I'm more known as Taapsee's ex boy friend in Telugu, Taapsee is known as Mahat's ex girl friend in Tamil Nadu.

Oh! why 'Ex'? Got separated? Why?

-Yes, we were dating for 2 years and the whole world knows it. But my personal relationship will always remain personal. We both didn't get along. No more comments apart from this.

There is news that you are a bit worried for missing her as you shared the same with your friends in Kollywood. True?
-I didn't share any kind of such things. I prefer being silent for this question.

Your name flashed in media for a wrong reason- a tiff with Manchu Manoj. What's all about it? Is that solved or you still hold the rivalry?
-It's true that we did have an issue. We both were best of friends for a couple of years. He is a nice person. He was being provoked by a couple of people. And I know who they were. But things are now done and dusted. Let's leave it here.

There are rumors about you that you have some warm time with your co star Pia Bajpai during BBS shoot. Can you throw some light on that dark secret?

-This is my first film as solo hero and I had lip locks with both Archana and Pia in the film. I dont know why gossips ended up with Piaa and not Archana (laughs).

Where do you see yourself after 5 years in Tollywood?

-I don’t know where I would see myself tomorrow. Forget about after 5 years.

Did you watch BBS? And what is your frank opinion on the film, director and the whole team?

-Yes, I did watch the film. I prefer not commenting about my films, because I love myself. So whatever I do, I love it. And Madhura Sreedhar's direction and screen play is just AMAZING.  End of the day I believe in the words of people who watch the film. And I am sure they love it.
