Veteran Singer P B Srinivas Is Dead

Veteran singer of South India Prativadi Bhayankara Srinivas, popularly known as P B Srinivas, died of brief illness in Chennai on Sunday afternoon.
He was 83. He is survived by two sons and a daughter. PBS had not been keeping well for the past few days and his death took place at his CIT residence in Chennai. He sang more than 20,000 songs in Telugu, Kannada, Tamil,Mayalayam and even in Hindi. He was very much popular in Kannada, lending his voice mostly to legend Kannada actor Rajkumar.
In Tamil, he was the most sought after voice for Gemin Ganeshan.
A native of Kakinada in East Godavari district, Srinivas did his commerce graduation in Kakinada, before moving to Chennai for film singing. Apart from playback singing, he also penned several Ghazals in Telugu. He debuted in 1952 in Gemini's Hindi film Mr Sampat. In 1955 he also sang in the Malayalam film Harishchandra.His first solo hit came in the movie Prema Pasam in which he also sang a duet with P Suseela.
His devotional songs include "Sharadha Bhujanga Stothram", "Sri Venkateswara Suprabhatham", "Mukunda Mala", "Shri Mallikarjuna Stotram" and Purandaradasa compositions. He had headed many music related organizations such as being the president of Iyal Isai Nataka Mandram.
