The Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and the Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy have never been best of friends.
But, as things stand now, they seem to have become bitter rivals in the party.
While Jaipal has become a rallying point for the Telangana protagonists within the party, Kiran is now rated as a star batsman for the cause of united Andhra Pradesh.
The rivalry has deepened further following the latest pro-active measures taken by the Congress high command to find a solution to the vexatious Telangana statehood issue.
Though the two leaders, belong to two different generations and schools of thought, have been crossing swords quite often, the bitterness has increased now with Jaipal stepping his lobbying for separate Telangana state and trying to undo whatever groundwork that the Chief Minister had done to ensure that the state remains united.
Jaipal, a wily and calculated politician who has considerable clout with the party leadership, has been playing a host for the Telangana Congress leaders flocking to Delhi in pursuit of their cause.
Jaipal hosting Kiran's detractors like Damodar Raja Narasimha and K Jana Reddy and holding frequent confabulations with them has not gone down well with the Chief Minister's camp.
After the recent Congress Core Committee meeting where the Chief Minister was said to have made a forceful presentation in favour of the United AP, Jaipal has intensified his lobbying and using every means to persuade the high command to agree for bifurcation of the state.
Jaipal has been telling the Telangana leaders calling on him that granting statehood was now imminent and no force on earth could stop it.
This has angered Kiran's camp who feel that Jaipal has been working against the interests of the Chief Minister through manipulations.
