The YSR Congress Party's sudden change of strategy on Telangana issue
and the en mass resignation by its MLAs for the cause of united Andhra
Pradesh has left its Telangana leaders seething in anger.
They are unable to digest the party leadership's volte face.
The former minister and a prominent leader in Warangal district Konda Surekha is particularly upset over the party MLAs resignation drama. She has come out openly, questioning the leadership's move.
So peeved is Surekha that she has issued an ultimatum to the party's honorary president Y S Vijayamma to clarify the stand in two days or else the Telangana leaders like her would have to chart their own course.
She made it clear that there was no question of abandoning the Telangana cause for anybody's sake.
"If the leadership does not answer our questions in two days, I will be compelled to chalk out my own course of action," Surekha, once a die-hard loyalist of Jagan Mohan Reddy.
The former minister lamented that YSR Congress Party has become like any other "Seemandhra parties" by submitting en mass resignations.
Surekha said that there was no debate or discussion in the party before the legislators announced their resignation. It did not augur well for the party's future, she said. Should we continue in the party or not was her straight question to the leadership.
However, it appears that the Telangana leaders will not have their voice in the party from now on as the party has changed its tactics and now wants to consolidate its position in the Seemandhra region. Its poor performance in the first phase of Gram Panchayat elections could have influenced the party's thinking on the issue.
