The Congress high command is understood to have decided to ignore the
Jaganmohan Reddy factor in the next general elections and gear up the
party cadres to face the elections on their own.
This was made clear by AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana at the party meeting in Delhi on Saturday. He asked them to concentrate on strengthening the party, irrespective of the defections and building up alternative leadership.
“Let us face the situation with our own strength and not worried about the consequences. There is no need to compromise with YSR Congress party under any circumstances,” Rahul is learnt to have told them.
Kiran told the media later that there was no threat to the Congress party despite defections.
“The party does not depend on individuals. If one person leaves the party, there is another leader to replace him. We will treat all political parties equally, whether it is the YSR Congress or the Telugu Desam Party or the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen,” he said.
