Ram Charan Fights Oil Mafia in Zanjeer

Produced by Puneet Prakash Mehra and Sumeet Prakash Mehra, Zanjeer is the remake of Prakash Mehra’s 1973 cult classic by the same name.
While the overall theme is the same as the Amitabh Bachchan starrer, the makers ensured that the film is a contemporary adaptation.
The director Apoorva Lakhia has come up with a plot that is realistic and based on current events.
So, the current Zanjeer revolves around the Sonavane killing and the oil mafia.
“When I was offered the film, the Sonavane killing and oil mafia were in the news. We took inspiration from there and weaved our story structure around that,” says Apoorva Lakhia.
The film has Ram Charan making his much anticipated debut in Bollywood. Priyanka Chopra is playing the female lead Mala.
Unlike the rustic, street-smart Mala of the original, this one is a spunky NRI girl who is obsessed with Bollywood. Mala comes to Mumbai for a wedding and ends up becoming a prime witness in a case.
Ram Charan will be donning the iconic role of the honest police officer ACP Vijay Khanna played by Amitabh Bachchan in the original.
In the latest rendition, another sub plot has been added to the script, as it was relevant to the plot. Crime journalist J Dev lost his life while carrying out an investigation on the oil mafia. So, this forms a crucial part of the film.
The film is being simultaneously shot in Telugu. The Telugu version will be dubbed into Tamil and Malayalam. The film is titled Toofan in Telugu.
Zanjeer is being produced by Reliance Entertainment and Flying Turtle Films. It is being readied for release on September 6.
