The Central Bureau of Investigation has played an April Fool prank on
the media on Monday on its proposed final charge sheet in the alleged
illegal assets case of YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan
Reddy.
On Sunday evening itself, CBI joint director V V Lakshminarayana made a leak to a select group of media persons that the agency would file the final charge sheet in the CBI special court on Monday.
A couple of anti-Jagan channels made hungama by “breaking the news” and even some Telugu dailies played up the news in the morning. All the local and national media assembled at the Nampally court to give the live coverage of the charge sheet against Jagan.
However, it did not take much to realise that the CBI had fooled them on the All Fools’ Day. The CBI told the court that it would only file a supplementary to the first charge sheet against Jagan only on Tuesday. As such, it would take its own time to file the final charge sheet!
